Carel Kraayenhof, Big Black & Beautiful, Sexteto Canyengue

Two weeks ago Thirza Lourens received in her office a question of the production-company of Ivo Niehe, IN2, if Carel was willing to cooperate at the TV-Gala ‘KWF Cancer-control, 60 years together against cancer’, to make the Netherlands by means of this TV-program more aware of the fact that still very much money is needed for the struggle against cancer. Carel and his Sextet are very much involved in this fight. Our violinist, Bert Vos, survived the disease and also our tourmanager, Sylvia Snel, conquered the cancer. Betteke Besselink, musicproducer of IN2, proposed a performance with the singers of Big Black & Beautiful. Thanks to a rehearsal-recording of a new composition of Carel, ‘Viejo Caballo’, Thirza Lourens got the idea to use this composition, with lyrics by the Argentinian singer Omar Mollo,for this TV-recording and also to make a single of which the proceeds will be for KWF.Berk Music, the record-company of B, B & B, was willing to handle distribution and promotion of this single and the singers of B, B & B made a fine English translation of the Spanish text.We recorded the single in the Highland Studios of Hans Bedeker. Meanwhile the television-recordings of ‘Old Horse’ have taken place in the Koepelchurch in Amsterdam.
